Do You Need Wind Power

Do You Need Wind Power

Do You Need Wind Power

Do you need a wind power system at home to cut your costs to the utility company? Do you need the noise those blades make spinning in the wind, possibly knocking birds out of the sky while you argue over zoning laws regarding the height of your turbine tower?

These negative points are enough to keep most people from using a wind turbine to further their goal of energy self-suffiency, or even just helping the environment while doing something good for the planet. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of a home wind system that will help you make an informed choice about what is the best system for you.

Wind power is a seemingly limitless power source supplied by the Sun heating the atmosphere, creating the jet streams that circle Earth. In most area it is intermittent. The wind doesn't always blow when and where it is needed, so research is needed for your particular site to see how feasible it is.

The costs, in kilowatt-per-hour to produce wind power is approximately $.06 while more traditional sources of fossil fuel can be up to $.75. It is a cleaner source of energy especially when compared to coal extraction or oil production. When you add in the factor of creating your own energy at home instead of relying on the power grid, your impact on the environment lessens immensely.

The danger of wind turbines to birds migrating along flyways has been proven, but there are different types of turbines that are more eco-friendly than others.

The Savonos-style vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) have blades that are larger than the traditional horizontal axis system, allowing the birds to see the slower moving, helix shaped blades. Studies also show that the VAWT are quieter running and begin producing power at a lower wind threshold. They can also produce power at higher wind speeds and operate in urban areas, where the wind direction is omni-directional i.e., coming from multi directions due to deflection by surrounding buildings.

Do you need wind power? Think of it as one more tool in your box, alongside solar, thermal heating and a good energy audit of your home to show you where energy is being wasted and you are losing money. If you decide wind is for you, look to the Internet for more information that will show you DIY alternatives and how to get started harnessing the free energy flowing around you.

Divorced Dads Tips Understanding

Understanding "Winning" Child Custody when you are a divorced dad requires a new way of looking at what "Winning" really means. For example, let's say that you went to family court, spent $50,000.00 and won custody of your kids. You think "Ahhh, I've won."

What if Mom drags you back into family court eight months later because she doesn't like how you're parenting? You've technically got custody of your kids, but what is that custody actually worth? Who is going to make the decision about your kids?

The judge. In effect the judge, on behalf of the government, has custody of your kids. Why is this good news for you? Even though that the majority of custody orders favor moms and designate "sole custody", the important thing to remember is that her custody in itself is an illusion.

This means that the fight for custody is also an illusion.

Say it out loud: "Custody is an illusion." Just keep repeating that phrase to yourself until understanding starts to sink in.

Use Mom's desire to gain custody as a negotiating chip to get time with your child. When she is faced with getting what she wants for little cost versus having to spend a lot of money, she will likely opt for giving you what you want: TIME with your kids.

Make sure to connect time with your kids to how it benefits the kids. Don't look at it as away to reduce child support. Get time with your kids and get that established. Pay the child support. Once that's established, you can take a look at child support arrangements. If you fight over money, it becomes the main issue. They'll claim that the only reason you want more time is so you can spend less on child support.

The best counter to that argument is: "By your logic, the only reason you want your kids so much is so you can use them to get that child support..." When you go back to court, you must litigate over the right issues. Be a peace maker, not a trouble maker...

BE FOCUSED: Your issue is you want time and influence with your child and it is fully possible to get that without having a custody order.

In many places custody only means the right to make:
a) Religious Decisions
b) Medical Decisions
c) Educational Decisions
d) Legal Decisions

For medical, legal and educational decisions, if there is a strong disagreement, the family court judge decides. However, a judge will generally allow both parents to participate in their religion. They will not listen to any objections because, after all, the parents knew or reasonably should have known this might have been a bone of contention when they picked each others as parenting partners.

Most times going back to Family Court is either about child support, alimony, more access time or enforcement of access time. Most divorced dads confuse custody with access or time. Recognize that having custody does not end your problems with parenting time, it only trades one set of difficulties for another.

During my divorce, I wished for a divorce roadmap. That's why we created a weekly telewebcast, to help men like yourself.

If you've lost in Family Court, don't give up. There is always hope. You've likely lost because you didn't understand that winning requires effectively "waging peace" for your children.

If you base your game plan and strategies upon those of successful fathers, you will improve your chances of success immeasurably. You need help from dads who have done what you are trying to do.

Divorced Dads Tips How to Prepare for Family Court

There are two ways for a divorced dad to look at the time spent preparing in Family Court:

(1) You can either approach the experience with the attitude you're just spinning your wheels and wasting time and money

or

(2) You can do your homework and learn your way around the Family Court system in order to prepare for your own court successful appearances.

Do you need to guess which strategy the successful divorced dad chooses? No way.

I'll let you in on a secret you may not know about Family Court: People are predictable. Judges will reach for the same solutions again and again. If you spend time observing what happens in Family Court you will see that there is a lot of predictability to the processes once you learn who's involved.

Learning who your Family Court judges are and how they run their courtroom and how they decide things is imperative if you want to win in Family Court.

A divorced dad would do well to spend some time watching the action in court and learning their court inside out, including the judges. Like a boy scout, he should be prepared for anything the judge might throw at him.

In the early 1990's there used to be a man who was a frequent guest on the Larry King Show named Gerry Spence. He wrote a book called How to Argue and Win Every Time. The principles in that book were inspiring to me when I was in the thick of Family Court struggles. He listed several laws that are at the core of every winning argument, and I will share a five of them here.

(1) Before you even begin, you must believe that you are capable of making a winning argument. When you truly believe that, present your case and always argue from the heart. If you argue from the heart, you are telling the truth. The truth in this context is hard to beat because it is so infectiously compelling and persuasive.

(2) Remember that winning is getting what you want, but it also means helping others get what they want. This means divorced dads need to look for a way to compromise.

(3) Learn that words are a weapon and can be used in hostile combat. In Family Court, inflammatory words are not a wise choice. The judges hear this type of thing day in and day out and it does not leave them with a favorable impression.

(4) Know that there is a biological advantage of delivering the truth. Certain chemical reactions occur in the body when a person tells the truth, and others can pick up on it.

(5) Assault is not argument. Attacking your opponent does not mean that you are arguing. It usually signals fear of losing an argument

I'll share the next four principles of How to Argue and Win in Family Court Every Time in my next article.

During my divorce, I wished for a divorce roadmap. That's why we created a weekly telewebcast, to help men like yourself.

Divorced Dads Tips Divorce 101 for Dads

As an adult child of divorce, I've realized that there are certain principles that can earn a divorced dad the right to hold Mom, her lawyer, custody assessors/evaluators, Family Court Judges, Appeal Courts and Politicians accountable to the proper standard.

I call this "Divorce 101". Following these principles will ensure that "the best interests of the child", your child, are being met in Family Court. However, dads must FIRST hold themselves accountable to these same standards and principles.

When a family unit ends due to divorce, the "First Principle" is the Four Stages of Coping: denial, anger, grieving and acceptance. Acceptance means acknowledging the loss and being able to move on

Second, Communication is key. This involves learning how to understand and express the emotional pain of divorce without resorting to aggression or violence.

Third, Education is vital. Believe solutions exist and you will begin to see them. Books, tapes, professionals, support groups, self-help resources provide ideas. Learn what to do and not do to avoid losing contact with your children.

For example, never leave the home without a separation agreement or court order that clearly spells out legal and physical custody of your children, detailing the parenting arrangements in specific terms. In many places, leaving the home gives the other parent custody until there is an official separation agreement or court order.

Fourth, expand your Negotiation skills. Most people rely on 1 or 2 negotiating strategies. Long before the family court dates, a divorced dad needs to study, learn and apply the skills required to negotiate. Increase your negotiation options, and you will be closer to a creative win/win solution.

The Fifth Principle is Mediation. A professional mediator can help when the lines of communication break down. Attend sessions, even by yourself, to improve your communication. Use this as evidence of your commitment to your children. Instead of complaining about your ex-wife, give evidence of your ability to persevere and learn all you can to help your kids.

Sixth is the process of Enrichment. Consult a child psychologist to assist with a parenting plan designed to heal your child from the impact of the divorce. They can also evaluate your parenting and co-parenting strengths and weaknesses, and give expert testimony on these crucial areas of parental fitness.

Seventh, Litigation is an absolute last resort. If you have taken the time to methodically work through these previous steps, you can establish that you have the skills and the willingness to work things out for an optimal outcome for your children, and that your wife is engaging in an attempt to thwart your role as Dad.

Most importantly, don't feel overly discouraged or overwhelmed. Every journey begins with one step. By reading this, you've taken that step. There are many more you will need to take as you learn how to plan for your separation and divorce. But with thought and planning, you can save yourself time, money and undue emotional suffering.
